Sweet, sweet, summertime. The days get longer, the sun gets hotter, and the little rascals are out of school. Few things are sweeter than hearing the pitter patter from the feet of the neighborhood kids and their shrieks of laughter as they play and work off their abundance of energy!
It seems inevitable though, that as summer persists, the hype wears off and parents start hearing the dreaded words, “I’m bored!” escape from their kids lips. With all the extra time on their hands, they can’t seem to keep busy enough.
On the days when rain kept us cooped up or we simply wanted some time inside, a huge trend in my home was always arts and crafts. We had a monstrous bin filled with all sorts of colored construction paper, markers, crayons, paints, glue sticks, staplers and anything else our hearts imagined. My siblings and I would lay everything out on our basement floor and craft the afternoon away. Crafting provided hours of fun for us and a well deserved break for our mom.
The Long Threads, provides a list of 50 Summer Crafts for Kids, some of my favorite including:
- The Sunprint Tutorial
- Flower Pinwheels
- Pressed Flower Art
Watch as masterpieces are made when your kids access their imagination and gain confidence in their own ability to create!
Take it a step further and make it a point to preserve these projects your kids work on by laminating them or displaying them around your home. Your kids will feel such joy and satisfaction seeing the art they’ve worked hard creating placed around your home for everyone to see.
Keep Calm & Craft On!
