Add Some Flavor to Your Workspace
Think of your home, doing a mental scan of what it looks like from room to room. Chances are that you have personal touches speckled all throughout it. Maybe some pictures, decorative vases, pretty yet effective storage options, or if you’re lucky, blooming flowers emitting a refreshing scent. You scatter miscellaneous items throughout your home because you’re seeking a comfortable environment with some visual appeal since you’re there daily.
If you’re one of the roughly 40 million individuals that work at a desk each day, why not bring a little of that ‘home comfort’ to your workspace? Now let’s not get carried away, I’m not recommending you bring your fluffy pillow and down comforter with you in hopes of finding this comfort. But what I will suggest is creating a workspace that looks personalized and lived in!
If you have room for pictures, either sit them out on your desk surface or tack them to a bulletin board. If you’re not provided with a bulletin board, get creative and make your own! Put out a vase and fill it with flowers-taking the outdoors and bringing it indoors. If you’re like me and don’t have the best track record with keeping flowers alive, opt for silk flowers; just about any craft store will have them. I like to leave out a candle with my favorite scent. Although I can’t burn it, the smell is strong enough for me to notice, yet subtle enough to not offend my cubicle neighbors. A fun way for you and your coworkers to interact throughout the day is to leave a dry erase board near the entrance of your office space with the words “Write On Me!” strung across the top. Pretty soon you’ll have all sorts of different messages to read.
Some other ideas from We Magazine for Women include:
-Brighten up: Good lighting can brighten your mood and increase your energy.
– Add soothing accessories: Keeping a small bowl of aromatherapy petals on your desk will aid in your relaxation.
-Bring the outside in: Simply having a photo of nature or some beautiful and relaxing destination can make your day seem less stressful.
– Avoid kitscsh: Project your style and personality through professional and tasteful desk elements. Feature vases rather than your childhood teddy bear.
Comfort is subjective; what’s good for me isn’t always going to be good for you. So feel free to get creative and remember that this is your workspace, make it what you want it to be. My newest desk edition is the chrome Swingline Full Strip Fashion Stapler. It has a modern feel with its square edges and clean chrome finish; providing just enough style!
